Rhys at 8 weeks

Time is flying by...we are having such a great time with Rhys. I can't believe he is two months old in some ways - but I am sure that I look like I have aged two years! :) Not that I really mind the lack of consistent sleep and bags under my eyes. It is all for a good cause.

Have you ever noticed that so many nursery rhymes deal with sleep....Rock-A-Baby in the Tree Top, for example, must have been written by a frustrated mother or father, don't you think?

Working on Tummy Time...

Now this is not Rhys's favorite thing to do. I thought we started early but now I know that you need to start when they are days old. Oh well - there are so many things I have learned that I could put into practice for number 2 when he or she arrives.

This is my third attempt...the first two were really great - Rhys was "talking" - but I couldn't upload them to Blogger. However, this one is pretty cute, too. Just try to ignore my voice...wow, I didn't realize I have officially adopted a higher voice for the baby. The books say babies like it - but adults must find it grating!

The cat isn't quite sure of this new being invading her space. So far,however, she has been good. The crying doesn't seem to bother her - just the lack of space now on my lap does. I am sure when Rhys is trying to pull her tail in a year it will be another story.

Maybe one day the boys will actually look at each other. Jonas is the son of my oldest friend - our moms are best friends from college.

Where we found the name Rhys

So many people have asked how we chose the name Rhys. Well, it was one we could agree upon..that is a start. And our other favorite - Julian - was cause for some laughter and threats from people that we know that their kid would be beat up our kid on the playground. So, after a lot of searching and discussion (mainly by Heather), we came up with Rhys.

If you are a fan of British history, you will know that Rhys is a Welsh name - and a favorite name of many of the warring Welsh princes. Now we all know what happened to the Welsh princes almost 800 years ago. There is now a Prince of Wales...but not quite a prince of old.

Rhys is becoming more popular in the US. Last I checked on Nymbler it was ranked 915 and growing. We have a ways to go until it is a popular as Jack but we will see if there are Rhys's aplenty in the next few years.

For those of you interested, Rhys is a surname or given name of Welsh Origin that translates to the word Ardour, meaning Eagerness, Love and Passion. It also exists in the Anglicised forms Rice, Rees, Reese and Reece. Welsh word for Enthusiasm - meaning "inspired by God" or "breathed by God" - from www.wikipedia.org

Long and Lean - or so the doctor says

When we brought Rhys home he could curl up in this entire swing. Amazing how much he has grown in the last 5 plus weeks. If he takes after the Oldham side - we have some ways to go. I should capture a picture of his feet...if they are any indication we have a tennis, golf and basketball player on our hands. Now, we just have to make sure he has an interest in the humanities, too.
